Really felt pampered. A short walk from the main hotel and downtown. One must have the chocolate cake in the restaurant. Staff is friendly and helpful. A welcome and comfortable setting, quite different from the normal experiences of an East Coast Road warrior. The Eldridge is the best hotel in Lawrence and one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Great location on Mass. The service is personal and the beds are the best. A very comfortable place.

Welcome to the Eldridge Hotel. This hotel has been an important piece of Lawrence history since its very beginning. Unfortunately, after only one year, the hotel was attacked and burned to the ground. Colonel Shalor Eldridge rebuilt the hotel with an extra floor. The group killed around people and razed the town. Among the destroyed buildings was the Free State Hotel.
True to his word, Eldridge returned and rebuilt the hotel yet again, though he did not add another floor. This time, he gave the building his own name. Rumors of the ghost are a mixed blessing, Longhurst said.
Some guests reserving rooms ask to avoid , while others request it specifically. Certainly there have been some interesting reports regarding the ghost, Longhurst said. In fact, there may even be photographic evidence.
In one early s publicity photo for the Eldridge a man and woman can be seen sitting in the lobby while a faint human outline is visible in the background, presumably standing in the open elevator. This year, a man sleeping in for two nights asked to switch rooms in the middle of his stay, Longhurst said.
He reported that after he fell asleep the bathroom door kept slamming shut. Three times the man got up in the night to open the door, Longhurst said. The third time he blocked the doorway with a towel.
