New videos are added daily. Passport is an added benefit of station membership. With PBS, viewers can experience the worlds of science, history, nature and public affairs; hear diverse viewpoints; and take front row seats to world-class drama and performances. I love the App and want more than anything to see PBS gain more momentum without falling into the capitalist trap of conforming to viewership views to bring in dollars.
What I mean is, I would love to simply sign up through the app and pay for it monthly but not dramatically effect the way that PBS is able to sustain. All I know is that as of today, accessing additional content can be cumbersome and confusing and because there is no way to upgrade through the app nor manage your account you can end up with multiple accounts or funding going to the wrong networks.
I ended up sending donations to the network out of Pennsylvanian rather than my local network and then had to reach out to them to directly to cancel my donations. Also, please take advantage of being able to migrate existing accounts to Login with Apple. I love the app. I find access to PBS Passport an added bonus. The Passport benefit can only be linked to one PBS account at a time. You can create multiple PBS accounts with different email addresses, but only the account you originally linked to your Passport benefit will grant you access to Passport videos.

Gorgeously costumed and compellingly crafted, Victoria is a wonderful series to fully immerse yourself in—one that will for many Americans, at least have you constantly on Wikipedia to learn more about the historical events it portrays. Featuring four young stars on the rise as the unforgettable March girls, Emily Watson as their mother, Marmee, and the year-old Angela Lansbury in an astoundingly good turn as Aunt March, Little Women —adapted by Heidi Thomas Call the Midwife and directed by Vanessa Caswill—has all the makings of a new beloved viewing tradition.
A delightful if overlooked take on a classic, the women here may be little, but they are also strong, brilliant, and full of heart. The gorgeous four-part miniseries adaptation of E.
Margaret and her siblings are on the forefront of changing social mores, sometimes controversially so, and it defines her relationship with an older, wealthy widower, Henry Wilcox Matthew Macfadyen , whose conservative values clash with hers. The story feels timely for a variety of reasons, although the genuine curiosity and politeness with which these issues are broached can seem lamentably foreign. The series, stunningly directed by Hettie MacDonald and wonderfully adapted by Kenneth Lonergan, is in many ways an atypical and refreshing period piece.
It is truly a must-watch. What sets this drama apart are the four women at the center of the puzzle, a quartet of former code breakers from the same WWII think tank as that in The Imitation Game granted, these characters are fictional.
Susan, Lucy, Millie and Jean reunite a decade later, in , to track a serial killer. As they decipher the clues and patterns, the ladies must juggle their sleuthing efforts with their newly civilian lives—to avoid suspicion, de facto leader Susan Anna Maxwell Martin and co. The best thing about Indian Summers is that it presents something totally different than the typical Masterpiece fare.
Taking place in the twilight of the British Raj circa , Indian Summers is thankfully not sympathetic or nostalgic for this fraught time in history. The show also bends its svelte, handsome antihero lead Ralph Whelan Henry Lloyd-Hughes into the realm of just plain villain more often than one might expect. But there are a number of compelling subplots that provide some balance, including romance and revolution, and all of it is a complicated collision between Indian and English culture.
Cancelled after just two seasons, the charmingly messy Indian Summers may not quite end on a satisfying note, but the journey is one worth taking. There are two things the UK is really great at producing: vicars and murder mysteries. So it holds that Grantchester —a story about a murder mystery-solving vicar—would itself be grand. The two solve Cases of the Week as vicar Sidney listens to jazz, questions his faith, and tries to stop being in love with his childhood friend Amanda, since they cannot marry.
Grantchester is often thoughtful, sweetly compelling, and lightly thrilling—it also includes cozy period details and a dog name Dickens.
What more could you want? Northanger Abbey Watch on Amazon via Masterpiece. No matter! Around the same time the BBC started adapting lesser-known Dickens works into a miniseries format written by Andrew Davies, so too did it bring us some of the lesser-appreciated Jane Austen works from Davies, naturally. Northanger Abbey , meant to be a spoof of sorts about gothic dramas and the girls who love them, is very fun and frothy. It deviates a little from typical Austen narratives with its spooky trappings, but it still gives us an incredibly sweet romance hindered initially by money, of course and a host of charming performances from a young Felicity Jones, Carey Mulligan, and JJ Field.
A truly delightful and very PG watch that everyone can enjoy. Chronicling the lives of three generations of a wealthy family from the late s through early s, The Forsyte Saga is based on the John Galsworthy trilogy of the same name. It is, in some ways, a British version of Dynasty. The version is fantastically dramatic and heartbreaking, full of schemers and dreamers and a grandly charming cast as it spins its dizzying tale of romance and woe.
Lushly produced, it should not be mistaken for high art so much as engrossing melodrama. If series about the scandals and foibles of the uppercrust appeal to you, you cannot go wrong with Forsyte.
Prime Suspect - Tennison. Behind every great detective is a backstory. My Mother and Other Strangers. Samantha Bond Downton Abbey and Francesca Annis Reckless, Cranford star in this heartwarming story of courage, friendship, and holding onto light in our darkest moments. With Season 6 under their belt and Season 7 filming wrapped, it goes without saying that Grantchester stars Al Weaver and Tessa Peake-Jones know each other pretty well by now, quirks, coffee orders, and all.
